Our History
The Beginning
Midsummer Bible Camp (MSBC) is older than Camp Leatherwood. The first year of Midsummer Bible Camp was first held at Natchez Trace State Park for a single year in 1975. Following that year Midsummer Bible Camp came back a little closer to home. The camp was held at Montgomery Bell State Park from the mid-70s to 1985. In 1986 Midsummer Bible Camp was held in White Bluff at the newly established Camp Leatherwood on Westcott Road.
Camp Leatherwood was the dream of Mr. David Mosley. Mr. Mosley searched for a home for Midsummer Bible Camp and he found it and the building began. Camp Leatherwood was made possible by donations of land, time, lumber, and love. It truly came from humble beginnings with the future of Midsummer Bible Camp as the main focus.
In 2016, the Dining Hall was struck by lightning in the offseason and burned to the ground unnoticed in the night. Camp spent a few years using a tent on the scarred concrete slab until a new dining hall was finished in 2021. The new mess hall added two sleeping quarters and allows for year round use of the camp. Two cabins were replaced with air-conditioned cabins and were first used in the 2025 season with plans for more conversions in the near future. More new additions to the camp ground included a new swing pavillion by the basketball court and the old fire pit was replaced with a new stone and concrete area with new benches.
Now Camp Leatherwood hosts an array of camps throughout the summer and various events in the Fall, Winter, and Spring. It seems Midsummer Bible Camp has found a home to be shared.
